Smokey Rose Monks Shawls
Cotton warp and weft with yarn handspun by Himalayan Buddhist Monks. The blue, thicker cotton is the monk cotton. We walked up three ladder like staircases into the attic of a grocery store in Leh, India to buy this cotton! The cotton is used locally as a candle wick, spun and sold by monks as a source of income. We thought it was a beautiful yarn and purchased three giant sacks of it. We looked like bandits leaving the shop, all the locals turned their heads confused as to why we would want so much of the yarn. Everyone was happy that day, as it seemed to be uncommon for them to sell twenty kilos of this candle wick yarn! Lots of smiles that day, one of my favorites in the Himalayans.
These shawls are very warm, and a bit thicker than our normal work. They are double weave, so they are twice as thick, and two sided. Note the pictures to see the two sides, and the pattern differences. All hand dyed, hand woven. Super cozy and soft.
Please note: There are 4 different pattern variations: A, B, C, & D. Make sure to select your favorite in the options!
